First official day of St. George Marathon Training!!!!!

Today I started my new training schedule for the St. George marathon. My quads were a little tight I think I need to stretch more.  I did hill repeats.  They were much harder than I thought they would be and much slower.  I am glad I use this blog now so that I can see if they will get any faster.  I did 3 X .25 miles up hill with a mile warm up and cool down.  I did them outside (on 1800).  I am not sure how to set my gamin to know how fast I did each repeat.  I guess if I set the lap to .25 it would show me. Anyway here are my mile splits

splits 9:05, 9:45, 9:06, Last half mile in 4:30

Awesome workout Kathie. I think the setting your looking for is the interval workout. And you will put in your interval distance in there. And then the amount of cooldown in distance or time. And it works pretty good. I just havent done it alot yet. But you did great. SGM here she comes.

I saw that title on Fly's blog too. You guys are not too excited about this being the first official SGM training day, are you?

GREAT JOB on the hill repeats. All that leg lifts and spin class are being put to good use now! WooHoo!

Hill repeats on 1800? You are crazy (in a good way).

Quarter mile hill repeats? You are crazy (in a good way). :)

Are you going to be doing any downhill running to help prepare the quads?

I ran the down hill hard on the last repeat for my down hill training.

Didn't I just read that same statement on Fly's blog? Very nice work on the hills!

So how did day #2 go? Only 123 days left.

From Marc Elliott on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 23:26:39 from 24.155.140.8

Is it time to train for St George already!? What's the current countdown? (Oh I see Rhett posted 123 days...wow, that's only 4 months away)

From Marc Elliott on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 23:29:49 from 24.155.140.8

For the Garmin..When I do repeats or intervals, I first turn off the "autolap" feature (under Training).

Then I hit "start" when I start, and hit "lap" after every time I finish/start subsequent intervals. It takes a little getting used to (like NOT hitting "stop" instead of "lap") Good luck!
