Well my run today was a total failure! I wanted to run 8 miles at marathon pace (8:46) and while I was close I missed on some of the miles and all the miles felt very hard. I tried to analyze why this run was so hard when Tuesdays felt so easy and here is what I came up with.

1- It was hotter, not by much but at least 5 degrees and windy.

2- My legs were tired from my wicked spin class

3- I didn't sleep as well last night

4- I was cocky and went out too fast.

Here are my splits: 8:34, 8:33, 8:28, 8:48, 8:28, 8:44, 8:52, 8:54,

I caught up with my husband and walked 1.5 miles with him after my run.

My 2 cents: you started out too fast. I am definitely starting to realize the benefits of having a very slow warmup mile. So slow that I don't even clock it on my watch ... because I know how I am ...

With that said ... I don't know why you feel like this run was a failure. Your splits look great! You kept everything under nines with two 8:28s. You are doing AWESOME!!!! :)

Sometimes your the windshield and sometimes your the bug, but through it all we still love you GUTS!

Great run by my book. Sure the ealier miles is what probably was the cause for the slight fade. Yet you still did awesome on it. And the wind can effect it for sure.

The splits themselves is not what has me so bugged it is the fact that they felt SOOOOOO very hard. I want them to feel easy like I could do 18.2 more miles at that pace...which at this point I am not sure I could!

Kathie...there are days that I go out and run my usual 7 miles and when I get to the end I'm thinking, 'there is no way I can run a marathon at 7:30 pace let alone my usual 8:10 pace.' I think it's just part of training. You'll have good and bad days, probably a lot more bad days because you are putting in more miles. Don't be too discouraged, that was a great run and it will surely benefit you come marathon day.

Kathie, you did amazing!!! But I know exactly how you feel.

They are not supposed to feel easy when you are in the middle of a training cycle. On race day when you are tapered and have the race day magic you will be able to hit the splits and they will feel easier. My MP runs have never felt like I want them to but somehow find a way to do it at the races.

Some days you feel like a nut. Some days you don't. But hey, you got it done!

In addition to what you've already listed, I find my bummer runs can correlate to how much and what I've been eating and drinking (i.e., diet).

Good job, tiredness is fine, unlike injury. You are dong great.

I ditto what everyone has said. It was not a total failure. It was an awesome training run and will pay off down the road.
