Five marathon pace miles today!  They were VERY hard.  My plan is to lift really hard on Wednesdays and then run pace miles on most Thursdays.  The hope is that my body will learn to run pace miles on tired legs and make me faster during the last part of the marathon.  I guess we will see how this works in 18 weeks!

Splits: 8:45, 8:40, 8:50 (hill), 8:42, 8:35

The effort felt like I was running an 8:15 so these times were a little slower than I wanted.

I ran with no music to test the Ragnar no head phones rule...I think I will be heading out today to buy me safety speakers that clip to your shirt.  Running with no music is hard!

Ragnar didn't ban headphones, they just discourage them for liability sake. I think all races anymore discourage them. But I'm with you, who can run for 4 hours with no music?

As of the Captains meeting last night they are banned. If your team is caught with them three times you will be asked to leave the race.

Dang, hate those miles feeling tougher than they are. Wish you well.

our local track club has banned them from all races they sponsor... that is most all the local races. i've come to enjoy running without headphones and just taking in my surroundings. a lot of people struggle with it though. if they catch you, you are disqualified from the race.

If Ragnar is banning headphones, I'm fairly confident it would be to limit the organizers' potential liability. With the tragic deaths Ragnar sponsored races have had, I would not be surprised if they have been sued. Ragnar races have turned into big business.

Yo woman, I went and ran the course, actually I just jogged it, and I think everybody will really be pleased with it. This is an easier course than the old one the starting line is at about 4750 ft elevation which climbs to 4815 at about 1.3 miles out where you run up about a 200 step hill and then return back to the track at the school. The return trip is a gentle down hill run where you can really kick please do not swear and take names.........I think I'm really going to like this new course.

Thanks Tom!!!! I will be looking for a PR on Saturday then!

Kathie..nice splits girl...I sure your miles felt slow because of the lifting the day before....I bet as the training goes on they will feel easier and easier. I always read your blogs and realized I need to work harder if I am ever going to keep up with you!!

By the way Ragnar sent out a new email stating that it is OK to run with headphones. You are so lucky!!!

AWESOME mp run! My mp stinks! Your workouts are great!

Hmmm, I really should get me some tunes on solo long runs.

Smart plan. MP miles on tired legs is a great idea. Good luck Saturday!

Looks like you are getting super serious girl. Are you and Kimmy training together for SGM?
