Lifted hard for legs because I missed Monday
Spin - WORST class ever! Sub was late, music was bad, she couldn't cue us right so everyone was lost...what a waist of an hour. If I had dared I would have walked out! I did do my own thing for the last 20 minutes so I guess it was not a total waist.
Five marathon pace miles today! They were VERY hard. My plan is to lift really hard on Wednesdays and then run pace miles on most Thursdays. The hope is that my body will learn to run pace miles on tired legs and make me faster during the last part of the marathon. I guess we will see how this works in 18 weeks!
Splits: 8:45, 8:40, 8:50 (hill), 8:42, 8:35
The effort felt like I was running an 8:15 so these times were a little slower than I wanted.
I ran with no music to test the Ragnar no head phones rule...I think I will be heading out today to buy me safety speakers that clip to your shirt. Running with no music is hard!

What a day! Saw a ton of friends, spent the day with family and came home with hardware!
I wanted to run this race fast but I knew with all the lifting I have been doing my legs may not cooperate. I was going to try to break 24 minutes but I didn't even come close with a time of 24:50 (garmin) but it was good enough to take third in my division. I guess it pays to be an old lady. My mom took first in her division, so did her friend and my neighbors also both took first. My neighbors had to leave early so they asked if I would pick up their awards. My daughter picked up one and Kimmy picked up the other. Because of their awards everyone I was sitting with got to go up and get an award, I think the people behind us were getting tired of our cheering!
Splits: 8:17, 8:18 (hill), 7:35
Totally a fun day!
Slick did you figure out how to use your itouch yet? (lucky guy!!!!!)
Today was listed as a tempo run but I did it more as mile repeats. I ran a mile and then walked for ten seconds and then ran again. First and last mile were warm up miles but I was surprised to see they were both marathon pace.
I ran later in the day to get used to the heat before Ragnar....I was sweating perfusely!
6 miles elliptical 4 miles 11% resistance 1.5 miles 9% resistance .5 11% resistance in 45:03
Lifted for legs again tried to go hard but legs were already fried...I keep telling myself I can rest in 15 weeks when I start to taper but it doesn't seem to help
Got up on this rainy day thinking of all my friends running the marathon. When ever I was wet cold and miserable I would think of them running more than twice as far. I did give up at the 8.5 mile and did the rest on the treadmill. The rain was not as bad as the wind, at one point I was running down a steep decline with a very strong tail wind, it was all I could do to stay upright and not roll down the hill. Coming up the same hill with a head wind was not fun either!
Lack of MoJo day! couldn't bring myself to run :( I am really worried about Ragnar and if I can pull it off this year everything seems to be going wrong, not with my running just the race itself.
5.5 miles 3% decline. I wanted to do 6 but I had to "GO"! I hate getting old everything falls apart even your bladder!!!! 2 miles at 8:49 1 at 8:41 2.5 at 8:34. I was trying to go faster to get the six miles in but I think it only made things worse.
Lifted for legs added extra 5 pounds to each rep. Also did walking lunges.
Started my run today and my right heel felt like there was a rock in my shoe. Because of the race tomorrow I told myself if the pain didn't go away after a mile I would turn around. At the one mile mark the pain was still there, I went a little further and then I thought it was not worth it and turned around. It is on ice now and still a little sore...I am not happy about this!
My son is going to the temple tonight! It kind of gets in the way of my Ragnar routine but is TOTALLY worth it!!!!!!
What a fun time we had!The race had 1050 teams this year and so parts of it were really crowded
but other than that I think Ragnar put on a great race.
It all started Thursday at 6:30 am.I wanted to go to the temple with my son so I
knew I had to have everything ready to go by 6:00pm.I first went out for a six mile run.My right foot was giving me problems so I
called it quits at 2.5 miles.I then
cleaned the car, cleaned my house, bought groceries, decorated the van, met my
son at the distribution center to buy him Garments, and went to the
temple.As you can see I didn’t have
time to eat so at 9:00 when I got home I ate some fruit and went to bed.
We woke up at 4:00am packed up the car and headed to
Logan.Kim had been sick all week and
she was not getting better. She had a
killer cough that was giving her fits. She was running leg three and at the end of her first leg she was sure
that she couldn’t do her very hard last leg (8 miles up hill)so we traded legs for that round. This would give me a 7 mile trail leg, an 8
mile uphill leg followed by another 8 mile uphill leg.Knowing this early in the race gave me enough
time to wrap my brain around it, so it really was not that big of a deal.
My first leg started around 2:00 I was hoping to do it in 59
minutes but I came in closer to 62 minutes.I started to feel weak right from the start and then realize I had
hardly eaten anything for the past 48 hours. This leg has two uphill miles followed by two downhill miles and
finishes with three rolling hill miles.
Splits: 9:43, 9:36, 8:52, 8:38, 8:29, 9:11, 8:55
My next leg started at 10:30 and is 8 miles mostly up
hill.I love this leg I am not sure why
the uphill seems so easy but it did.I
had 26 road kills on this leg.I met up with
a young guy from Kaysville; we ran the last 4 miles together. At one point it got really windy. He let me draft of him and when I went to
take my turn in the lead he said I was too skinny!I could have kissed him!
Going into my last leg my legs were already killing me.I set a goal to run the first four and then I
could walk after that.I didn’t quite
make it to four miles before walking but I was still proud of what I did on
this leg. This leg started at 7:40 in the morning.
Splits: 8:37, 8:58, 9:08, 12:08, 11:32, 10:17, 11:50, 7:53
(only .85 of a mile)
Update on Kim – When she got home she went to the doctor and
discovered that she was coughing so hard she cracked a rib…yes she ran the
Wasatch back with a cracked rib!!!!!
Other fun facts: I saw pron8er, Alisak, rdrunner, and mrs. Rdrunner
during the race, lost and found my
Garmin, Went to the wrong exchange, and said my first bad word during a race.
Ok I am hurt...STINK! I think I was compensating trying not to hurt my heel and now both my heel and shin hurt. It was to the point that I could only do 3.5 of the 6 I had planned to do today. Even when I lifted weights it hurt to even put weight on my shin. It is not really the shin where the pain starts, it is in the front part of my ankle and the pain radiates up the shin. I have ice on it now and I think I will skip my 6 mile run tomorrow and just do a spin class not sure where to take it from there.
All easy miles. I ran 8 with my Garmin, then I handed it off to my son so he could do his 13. I ran the last 5 with a neighbor probably around 11 minute miles. It was fun to chat with her.
Splits for first 8: 9:13, 9:18, 9:01, 9:13, 9:47, 9:30, 9:07, 9:02
I had to wake up early and take my daughter to a photo shoot. She is starting to model...not sure how I feel about it...I did it in college and it is an ugly business. I just can't seem to convince her of that. So if she is going to do it I am going to be there for EVERY shoot even if I have to skip a run or two!
