There is not much good I can say about this run, but after I finished I talked to my husband and he said I need to look on the bright side and realize at least I was running.  He is right, I will need to change my goals for St. George.  It would take a miracle for me to pr.  My goal now is to train the best I can each week and then run the best race I can and enjoy the fact that I am running.

This is the hard part now, what is the best way to train?  The reason this run was so bad was because I felt VERY weak.  My endurance was low and my speed was lower than when I first started running 5 years ago. Here are the spits from today's run.  Bare in mind that I was trying to run as fast as I could on all these miles.  At the end of the 12 miles I felt like I had gone 20.

Splits: 8:58, 9:06, 9:15, 9:21, 9:06, 9:29, 9:33, 9:48, 10:08, 9:57, 12:08 walked the last mile on the treadmill.

The hamstring itself felt weak but there was not a lot of pain.

Here is what the training plan calls for next week.  Let me know how you think I should tweak it.  Pool running while it helped the hammy heal I think is not the best option for me from here on out.  I need to run more for sure!

M - 6 X Hill repeats

T- 9 mile run

W - 4 mile run

TH - 9 mile run

F- Elliptical/yoga

S - 19 mile run

Kathie...it seems to me you and I are about in the same shape. My miles were about the same as what you did. My endurance is way, way down. After my 10 miles I felt like I had gone 20. My plan is to enjoy this SGM, I know that I will not be able to come close to my goal. So I look at my goal now is to finish....anything under 6 hours is great by me. Lets get together on the weekend at run together. I can help you and you can help me.

I decided I am not going to push my body to another injury and with the flooding of the house I have too much stress to worry about my running right now.

Side note....how are you doing about he loss of Darby? Your pictures make me cry everytime I see them.

The reason the last mile was 12 minute miles was because I ran by a lab and lost it... It is really hard I keep looking for her to run up to me every time I come in the door.

We should run next week end. Do you want to go 19?

Kathie...I sure can understand you losing it. I will have a hard time everytime I come to your house. I looked forward to giving darby treats. She was a good dog...but think of it this way....Dad will take good care of her for you.

Do you really think I could go from 10 miles to 19 in one week. I would have to do some serious mile next week. I quess we could sleep at mom's and alway call her if we aren't going to make it :)

If we run together and do 19 you are required to leave your garmin home...you will still try and push it way too hard.

Very cool to get in 12 miles.

Just PLEASE be careful. I worry about your diehardness!!! :)

Btw, I think at this time of the year it is very easy to get a little frustrated with paces ... but dang ... it is so stinkin' hot!!! Seriously. My pace isn't what I would like to be either. But we are running!!!!!! :)

And about your upcoming week. Just be willing to change your plan if the hammy gives you problems. Also, consider skipping the hillwork. You know your body best ... just saying that sometimes you can be too stinkin' hardcore.

Love you.

I agree with Teena - skip the hill work!!! You'll do more damage than good at this point, let that hammy heal. Its been close to four months that I've been on the mend with my hamstring and I know it's due in part to pushing too hard too fast - be patient.

I am so sorry to hear about your beloved Darby! I know when I run with sadness, my runs are very crappy!

Make running fun! Training takes the fun out of it! That's my two bits. I agree with your husband. Sometimes I take running for granted. I need to remember that just able to run is a blessing.

I haven't done hill repeats for ages. I tried that the first year I trained for Boston. I think the risk of injuries outweigh the benefits. I'd rather run a few tempo miles or even speed intervals to keep the leg turnovers sharp. You know your body best!

Here's to a great week ahead!

Hang in there.

You have had a very emotional couple of weeks. Do not underestimate the impact the emotional stress had on your body. I was having a difficult time emotionally a few weeks ago and my running was very difficult because of it. Just keep plugging away and you will be back.
