50 miles this week!  This is only the second time that I have had a 50 mile week.  They were slow and a lot of them were ugly but I am happy I could run every one of them.

I met Kimmy on the JRP at 5:00am both of us injured and not sure how this run would go.  The first 9 were ok hard, but do able. At about mile 11 the wheels started to fall off for Kim.  She wanted me to go ahead but to tell you the truth I was not much better.  We got back to the cars at 14 miles and Kimmy was done.  I went out for 2.5 more and they were so slow I started to mentally doubt what I was doing.  I hurried home to babysit my grandson but when I got home he was not there.  I evaluated how I felt and decided I would go for the full 20 mile.  3.5 miles later on the treadmill I am a happy camper.

Hamstring is not better by any means but I think it is just weak at this point not injured.  I can not seem to hold any speed at all.  Do you guys think the best way to strengthen my hammy is lots of slow miles or should I add some speed work in the mix?

splits for first 16 (warning they are ugly!!!!!) 9:09, 9:34, 9:35, 9:25, 9:31, 9:33, 9:28, 9:47, 9:24, 9:23, 9:26, 9:44, 10:41, 9:53, 9:29, 10:01

great job on the long run this morning and nice mileage for the week.

as for your hamstring - it should gain strength with consistent mileage. speed work can help, but it can also put extra stress on it. ease into it gradually.

I am so happy that you were able to get in a great long run. Speed might do more harm than good at this point. Like Allie said, good consistent mileage is the best thing you can do.

Fifty is nifty! Those splits look beautiful to me, but I bet you could go even faster without the mask and snorkel.

I know not about the hammy.

Check you out!!!! :)

DANG!!!! Nice job!!! :) :) :)

Hammy: I think you should run whatever pace feels the most natural. Running too slow or too fast (in my mind) might cause you to favor it too much.

Seriously ... AWESOME week!!!!

I don't have a clue about running faster or slower for the hammy, but nice job on getting 20 done.

Congrats on you first 50 mile week. I agree that too much speed work too fast will cause added stress to the hammy. Keep it comfortable for a couple weeks before getting back to the speed work.

Careful what you call ugly...those are the pace I run! :)

CONGRATZ on 50 miles week! that's mileage in the bank that will pay dividends! WELL DONE!!!

so happy to hear the hammy is getting stronger each day.

There's no need to rush into speed work. Ease back into it in a week or two.
